I grew up in a New Jersey suburb about 45 minutes west of The City.
At 13, I moved to Colorado. My brother and I started eighth grade in a small-town middle school where the only diversity was “cowboy.” Our 1989 New York fashion, Jersey accents, and twin powers made us immediately stand out. He seemed to love the juxtaposition. I did not.

I worked full-time throughout high school, graduating in the bottom 20% of my class. The only thing I remember liking about high school was a girl named Tracy Valentine. She was so artsy, pretty, and cool, but I was too scared to ask her out. Fortunately, we stayed in touch after high school, and I finally got up the nerve to ask her out in 2021. We just celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary. I love that woman.

In 1996, my mom ended her long battle with cancer. I immersed myself in music. I spent my 20s managing a record store, DJing at bars and clubs, and running a small Denver-centric record label that released the first solo album by a little-known artist named Nathaniel Rateliff. “Son of a bitch!” If only we’d signed him to a long-term deal instead of a handshake deal over too many beers.

At 30, I started to think I might want to “do more.” What? I had no idea, and my undergraduate degree in sociology (with a minor in philosophy) offered no clear path. So, I asked Google for advice and it suggested law school. My follow-up question: “how do I get into law school?” That’s when I learned about this thing called the LSAT. I signed up to take the test the following month, and I somehow did well enough that my local law school (the University of Denver) let me attend at full price. Lucky me. I graduated in 2010.

Growing up as the younger twin, I learned early to notice when things weren’t fair. I still notice. Now, though, I get to do something about it. How cool is that?! I often tell people: “I sue insurance companies when they act like jerks. They keep me very busy.” I’m constantly honored and amazed that complete strangers put their full trust in me to help them through what is often one of the most painful and difficult times of their lives. I do everything I can to make sure I earn their trust.
