I was born in Twin Falls, Idaho and grew up in Kimberly, Idaho. I attended Kimberly public schools from K-12 with mostly the same 69 people I graduated with. I was involved with everything, but particularly anything athletic or academic. We were a blue-collar family in a rural community. My Dad and my granddad both worked at the local sugar factory until retirement. A friend of my Dad’s from when he was at the local community college was a successful lawyer, so my Dad held him up as an example. Given my personality, being an advocate made sense. After high school, I attended college in Idaho and graduated from the University of Idaho for undergraduate and law school. During college, I worked as a landscaper, concrete installer, and pizza driver. During law school, I met my wife, Ellen who is my law partner. We have been married 24 years and live in Boise, Idaho. We have three kids, one college graduate, one college student, and one middle schooler. We have a German Shepherd and a “Shollie”. I like to run, walk, and learn. I am currently playing a lot of catch with an aspiring high school running back. I would be an amazing golfer if only I could make a damn putt
