In this workshop, we will work on getting to point in the opening, using straight talk and principles of smart brevity. We will pick a case from
The participants and work together to get the opening down to 10 minutes by the end of the workshop.
What causes lawyers to give long, boring openings?
- The curse of knowledge
- Trying to undermine the entire defense
- “How To” books with frameworks that don’t work in real life
- Overtrying or putting on our entire case in opening
We have all seen our jury losing interest. We have felt the tension and frustration caused by going too long. After this workshop, your next jury will pay attention and look forward to hearing from you, instead of the boring defense.
